My Virtual Life in a Nutshell

Eperimentations in Sound

Here I will be posting mostly about the audio experiments I like to conduct as well as field recording and sampling. This has become an all-encompassing facet of my existence. It’s my main hobby, but that is not to say that I am particularly good at it.

Experimentation is, in large part, how I create my music (see Automatic Thoughts). % (Owner/Operator) is another musician whose work I genuinely respect and find inspiration in. He explains his craft as a process of experimentation, discovery, and adaptation, which is the best description I’ve heard thus far of this style of musical composition.

Lately I’ve taken a liking to tape. I grew up with cassettes, but had paid them little mind until recently. I now own too many cassette recorders, far too many to be useful, but that does not mean I will get rid of any of them 😉 I have several standard cassette decks (two-head and three-head), a few micro-cassette recorders, a minicassette (there’s a difference from micro to mini) recorder, and a small 3″ reel tape machine. I’ve used most of these to either field record or to bounce digital to analog tape and back for color and effect with varying levels of success.

Anyways, this is one kind of thing I will be posting about here. Stay tuned…
